I totally support gay marriage. I love the Golden State, but I'm quite sick of the bitchy, whiny Californians who are falling back on the old "blame the Blacks and Latinos" standby to explain who voted for Proposition 8 (e.g. AGAINST gay marriage).

I think a little history lesson is in order here. When I lived in Los Angeles in 1994, Californians voted to DENY immigrants basic social services like health care and education. (Look it up: Proposition 187.) Lemme guess, the Latino vote made that one pass too, right? Oh, and remember Proposition 209? That ballot proposition that ended affirmative action and barred state institutions from balancing out racial/ethnic inequalities? I'm sure the black folks came out in force to push that one through, too.

California, despite appearances, is NOT some bastion of leftist / progressive thought. Liberal? Yes. Progressive / Radical / Leftist? No. There's a difference.

If you put down your Grande Soy Chai Lattes and venture outside the metropolitan Bay area and Los Angeles, you'll discover parts of your state are quite conservative. For example, recent California Governors Arnold Schwarzenegger, George Deukmejian, Pete Wilson and (of course) Ronald Reagan were Republican. Your state gave us Richard Nixon, too! I don't fault you for putting any of those guys in office; the US is a democracy and everyone has a right to an opinion, a vote. But, really, please, I implore you ... stop blaming the brown people for your state's (often) center-right political persuasions.
